Sweden Ready For Euro 2020 After Beating Romania

0

Sweden sealed a place for themselves in the Euro 2020 finals after Marcus Berg and Robin Quaison both scored goals and secured a 2-0 win over Romania on Friday.

The match, which was held at Romania’s National Arena in Bucharest, saw Marcus Berg score the first goal in the 18th minute with home keeper Ciprian Tatarusanu having no chance of deflecting the ball.

Robin Quaison followed up in the 34th minute, scoring another goal and cinching the win. From there, all the Swedes needed to do was keep up a good defense to propel themselves forward and qualify for Euro 2020.

The final result secured Sweden the second spot in Group F, with 18 points. Spain tops the standings with 23 points, and Romania is third with14 points.

“We scored two goals, they scored zero. We played a really good match, especially in the first half … Overall, it was a very good match for us. I am very pleased,” said associate captain Janne Andersson.

“I got tears in my eyes when there were only two minutes left. We go to the European Championships is one thing, but when all the players worked together – it’s awesome. Incredibly cool.” he finished.

A$AP Rocky Will Be Returning to Sweden in December

0

It wasn’t long ago A$AP Rocky was detained in Sweden on assault charges, with many prominent voices in the music industry standing up for the artist, promising that they would never set foot in Sweden again.

Turns out, not even A$AP Rocky was willing to go that far.

The rapper is now planning another visit back to Sweden to headline a show on December 11, in Stockholm. Live Nation said in a statement,  “After an outcry of support from his Swedish fans, he will return to Stockholm to deliver a triumphant show for all his supporters,“.

The case, which was closely followed by the world, and even had the President of the United States, Donald Trump, plunge into a twitter feud with Swedish politicians, began when Rocky and two members of his entourage were jailed following a physical altercation after being harassed by two men.

Rocky and his friends were found guilty but were given conditional sentences. He was released on August 2, following a month-long incarceration. A$AP later stated he was “disappointed” by the verdict.

Tickets to the concert, which will benefit the Swedish Network of Refugee Support Groups (FARR), started going on sale on November 12, and can be bought on Live Nation’s website.

Zlatan Leaves L.A. Galaxy

0

One of the most electrifying stars in Major League Soccer has a big announcement to make:

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is leaving the football club LA Galaxy.

Ibrahimovic leaves LA Galaxy with 52 goals in 56 appearances and one playoff win in the one and a half years that he was with the club.

In typical Zlatan style, the football star tweeted a photo of him overlooking Los Angeles on November 23:

I came, I saw, I conquered,” he tweeted, alongside artwork of him overlooking Los Angeles.

To the Galaxy fans — you wanted Zlatan, I gave you Zlatan. You are welcome. The story continues … Now go back to watch baseball.

After the shocking news, fans and fellow football stars sent an outpouring of support. One of the first was LA Galaxy President Chris Klein, who paid in a press statement,

We would like to thank Zlatan for his contributions to the LA Galaxy and Major League Soccer. Since his arrival in 2018, Zlatan has positively influenced the sport of soccer in Los Angeles.

Klein continued, “We are grateful for his work ethic and passion. We thank Zlatan for his professionalism and immeasurable impact on the Los Angeles community and the soccer community in North America as a whole.

This isn’t the first time that Ibrahimovic went out with a bang. After leaving Paris St Germain in 2016, Ibrahimovic posted a message on social media saying he had “come like a king, left like a legend.”

Fans are already hedging bets on Zlatan’s next club, with most thinking he will transfer to either AC Milan, Napoli, or Manchester United.

Where will he go next? Only time will tell — or rather, we think Zlatan will post another message on his social media. What do you think? Let us know in the comments!

Greta Thunberg Releases Her First Book

0

Greta Thunberg is a girl that needs very little introduction. The Swedish teenager began protesting outside the Swedish government in Stockholm in 2018 and has since then taken the whole world with her on her journey as we’ve all kept our eyes on her.

From traveling across the Atlantic in a sailboat to speaking in front of the UN to being nominated for Nobel Peace Prize, the 17-year old has had an impact on the world that few could have missed. Now Greta is taking her world dominance to the next level by releasing her first book, No One Is Too Small To Make A Difference.

The book is a collection of Greta’s most famous speeches to date, including “Our house is on fire” and “Can you hear me?“.

You can find the book here: Greta Thunberg – No One Is Too Small To Make A Difference

Although this is the first book of Greta Thunberg, a new book, also to be published by Penguin is set to be released in 2020. The book will be co-authored by Greta’s family, mother Malena Ernman, father Svante Thunberg and sister Beata Thunberg. On Penguin’s website the description of the book reads:

This is the story of a family led to confront a crisis they had never foreseen. Of a happy life with two young daughters which suddenly falters, never to be the same again. Aged eleven, the eldest stops eating and speaking, and her younger sister struggles to cope. Slowly, alongside diagnoses of autism and selective mutism, their desperate parents become aware of another source for their firstborn daughter’s distress: her imperiled future on a rapidly heating planet.

Denmark Tightens Border Control Temporarily Due to Rise of Gang Violence

0
Danish police have set up a border control point on January 5, 2016 at the border town of Krusa bei Flensburg. It was a month ago that Denmark announced that they would be instating tougher border controls between Sweden and Denmark due to the rise of gang violence and explosions in the region.

The border controls are initially meant to be in place for a six-month period starting tomorrow, November 12. Targeted areas will be the Öresund bridge, which holds importance since it connects Sweden and Denmark through Malmö and Copenhagen, as well as the ferry stations.

2019 has seen an uprising in violence in both Denmark’s capital, Copenhagen, and Malmö, Sweden’s third-largest city. On August 6, an explosion at the Danish Tax Agency was said to have been committed by criminals crossing the border from Sweden. On June 25, two Swedish citizens were gunned down in the outskirts of Copenhagen, in what is believed to be gang violence.

Denmark Justice Minister Nick Haekkerup noted that the two events were “examples of the serious crime that can flow over the border from Sweden. We will not accept that.”

Across the border, Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven told a local news agency that “We have a serious situation… The inhabitants of Sweden should feel safe, whether they are on the streets and squares, at home in their residential area or wherever they are.”

Along with the border checks, authorities plan to have more CCTV surveillance, better surveillance of gang members, more drones scattered across “hot spots”, as well as bomb-sniffing dogs.

Anyone traveling across the border will need to carry proper identification, such as their passport or driver’s license. However, many of the commuters who travel the route frequently are already used to the heightened security between borders since the 2015 immigration wave

Denmark’s National Police said in a press release that they hoped these border checks will “prevent serious and organized crime from spreading.”

Ryanair CEO Goes Head to Head with Norwegian Air. Again.

1

This week in travel: two major airlines go head to head after Ryanair’s CEO offers a few choice words about his competitor. And it’s not the first time Mr. O’Leary goes after Norwegian.

Grab your popcorn and sit down – it’s about to get interesting.

Earlier this week, Ryanair’s CEO Michael O’Leary had an eyebrow-raising interview with CNBC’s Squawk Box Europe. One of the highlights was when Mr. O’Leary stated that rival airline Norwegian is bound to go bust sooner or later, claiming that the company is “doomed.”

O’Leary continued by noting that Norwegian was saddled “with enormous debts.”

“We are continually cutting costs, Ryanair is continually passing on those lower fares, and that’s what stimulating our growth and it’s what’s accelerating the demise of airlines like Thomas Cook, Aigle Azur, and Norwegian, who I think won’t be far behind them.”

Readers might be wondering, what is the reason behind Mr. O’Leary’s explosive claims?

Last month, Norwegian announced that it was planning to sell five of its Boeing 737-800 aircraft to a unit of China Aircraft Leasing Group.

Rapid expansion by Norwegian left the company with high debt and losses that have prompted it to announce recent measures designed to cut costs. It reported a 1.45 billion Norwegian krone loss ($159 million) in its full-year 2018 results, saying it had been “strongly affected by engine issues, fuel hedge losses and tough competition in a period of strong growth.”

The company said in a statement that the aircraft sales “is expected to increase the company’s liquidity by approximately $50 million after repayment of debt and have a positive equity effect.”

“The sale is in line with the company’s continued strategy of capitalizing on the scale built up over the last few years and the changed focus from growth to profitability,” it said.

However, Mr. O’Leary isn’t having any of it:

“They’re now resorting to selling the aircraft to raise 50 million bucks, which wouldn’t pay the fuel bill for a week. Norwegian is doomed, the business model doesn’t work and they’re saddled with enormous debts. It’s only a matter of time before it goes bust.” he said.

This isn’t the first time that Ryanair went head to head with Norwegian. In 2018, Mr. O’Leary said that he was “shocked [that Norwegian] was still flying as it loses heroic sums of money” and predicted it would go bust last winter.

Having primarily focused on an aggressive expansion, it might not be much cause for worry that Norwegian Air hasn’t been profitable lately. Their shift in focus from expansion to profitability, which started earlier this year when they cut routes that were not as profitable, such as Los Angeles -Stockholm, and added routes that were more profitable, could give Norwegian a great boost in numbers for 2020.

Not one to stay quiet, a Norwegian spokesman hit back and said: ‘These comments are from the same broken record and have no root in reality. Norwegian continues to fly an increasing number of passengers as we continue to focus on building a strong, sustainable and global business to benefit our customers, employees, and shareholders.

‘We’re focusing on our business and at this time Mr. O’Leary should focus on Ryanair.’

Greta Thunberg Hangs Out With DiCaprio & Schwarzenegger in Los Angeles

What happens when two environmentalist stars collide? They post about it on Instagram.

In a maybe not so surprising turn of events, fans of Leonardo DiCaprio and Greta Thurnberg got to see the two stars meet after DiCaprio wrote a post on his personal social media profile.

The Academy Award winner shared a picture of him and the Swedish student, with the caption: “There are few times in human history where voices are amplified at such pivotal moments and in such transformational ways – but Greta Thunberg has become a leader of our time.”

There are few times in human history where voices are amplified at such pivotal moments and in such transformational ways – but @GretaThunberg has become a leader of our time. History will judge us for what we do today to help guarantee that future generations can enjoy the same livable planet that we have so clearly taken for granted. I hope that Greta’s message is a wake-up call to world leaders everywhere that the time for inaction is over. It is because of Greta, and young activists everywhere that I am optimistic about what the future holds. It was an honor to spend time with Greta. She and I have made a commitment to support one another, in hopes of securing a brighter future for our planet. #FridaysforFuture #ClimateStrike @fridaysforfuture

He continued that 16-year-old Thunberg’s message should be a “wake-up call to world leaders everywhere that the time for inaction is over”.

“It was an honor to spend time with Greta,” he said. “She and I have made a commitment to support one another, in hopes of securing a brighter future for our planet.”

A few days later, Greta was spotted hanging out with another Hollywood star: none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The actor and former governor of California also posted a photo on Instagram of him cycling with Greta in Santa Monica, who he described as a “hero”.

Schwarzenegger wrote, “It was fantastic to see my friend and one of my heroes [Greta Thunberg] last week and go on a bike ride around Santa Monica together and I was so pumped to introduce her to my daughter Christina. Keep inspiring, Greta!”

What other stars will Greta meet? Only time will tell – but let us know your guesses in the comments below.

Small Talk Like an American, Listen Like a Swede

0

One of the things that I appreciate the most about being in New York is that Americans are so great at small talk. It’s easy to connect with anyone and it really brightens up my day!

As a Swede, I’m not used to being called darling by the Starbucks lady or having everyone asking me how my day is going. But what I am used to is when someone asks me a question, they will actually listen to the answer. Like really listen. Which is usually not the case in American small talk culture… The small talk simply doesn’t lead anywhere, and it feels like such a waste!

Compared to Swedes, who are famously quiet and hard to connect with, Americans are famously expressive and outgoing, which creates a dating advantage with huge potential. But only if you know how to leverage it! If you knew how to go from small talk to genuine connection, wouldn’t that make it so much easier to connect with people, make new friends and ask someone out on a date?

Let’s imagine for a moment that we live in a world where American style small talk is the norm (even in Sweden). How can we use that opportunity to genuinely connect with each other?

Well, a good start would be to actually answer the questions people ask us, “How are you?”(or Hur mår du?)is probably the question we ask and get asked the most times every day, but it’s usually just met with a simple “I’m fine.”. What would happen if we took this opportunity to share something about ourselves?

What if you were to share what is going through your head at that moment? It doesn’t have to be super big, or dramatic, just true. Try telling people what is on your mind. Are you feeling hungry? Excited to see the person who asked the question? Worried, fascinated or looking forward to something? Share it! You don’t have to do a full speech or anything, but make sure to answer the question with a full sentence.

I encourage you to stop for a second the next time someone asks you how you’re doing and take a moment to feel into how you are doing. And when you’ve told your friend/colleague/stranger about it you genuinely ask it back. Chances are that if you just shared something about yourself they will too. Suddenly you have a great foundation for a continued conversation that’s gone deeper than most in just the first minutes.

If you want to make this extra advanced you follow it up with a question about what the person just said. And then you carefully listen to the answer. Because that is where the real magic happens: when you are present, curious and interested in what people tell you about themselves.

Can you do these two things; answer with authenticity and listen with presence and curiosity, you can make every everyday interaction into a possibility for a new connection, friendship, dating and really good relationships.

It doesn’t matter if the “how are you?” comes from a friend, at the beginning of a date or from someone you would like to date. Being open to answer it will deepen your connection with that person and make it so much easier to get to know them, make them feel good in your company and start to connect in a more personal way.

And the best thing is that the “how are you?”-door is always open. You just have to walk through it.

Are You Alone In The Crowd?

0

I’m spending the fall in New York and find it easier to immerse myself into the city by experiencing it for a longer period of time, instead of just being here as a tourist from Sweden for a week or two. Since I’m a dating coach and an eternal student of human connection, it didn’t take long for me to notice that there is a lot more small talk between people here than a genuine connection in comparison to Sweden. And it made me wonder why.

Someone once told me that the problem with dating in New York City is that everyone wants the mix of simultaneously wanting to be alone and wanting to connect. The city is so loud, crowded and busy that quiet time for yourself is a luxury. Just walking down a Manhattan street can often feel like you are struggling through a human obstacle course.

People everywhere have an intense yearning for alone time, but despite that, in the midst of the big crowd, there is also a lot of loneliness. A strange, counterintuitive loneliness that comes from being surrounded by people but connected to no-one. Sometimes, not even yourself.

This isn’t limited only to NYC but is actually the case in most bigger cities, and a reason Sweden is one of the loneliest countries in the world. This collective loneliness is not a good foundation for love, dating or even friendship. Feeling overcrowded and starved for connection at the same time is a very confusing experience. It can almost be compared to being obese from eating too much junk food, and simultaneously being undernourished because your body is starved on proper nutrients.

Eating more junk food won’t help; you stay just as hungry. In a similar way, “shallow socializing” won’t help either; you will most likely still be feeling lonely. Your heart and soul need nourishing just as much as your body does. And just as the undernourished overeater needs to shift their diet to feel better, you might need to shift your social diet and in order to prioritize the quality of connection over the quantity of connection.

Most of the time, what people are longing for is to be truly seen and deeply connected. To be with someone who’s not in a rush, whose phone won’t threaten to go off any moment. Someone who is comfortable enough to be present with you in the moment. Someone who truly listens, understands and who doesn’t judge.

In a city like New York where success is common but time to be present is not, we might see each other more walking like business cards, colleagues, casual flings, or even a temporary buoy that could save us from drowning in the sea of loneliness for a moment or two. But that is not what love is, it is not friendship, and it is not a connection.

We are often so unfamiliar with true connection that we don’t even know what it is when someone offers it to us. We tend to feel naked and unprotected in the unfamiliarity of vulnerability, but with practice, we can go from “this feels strange” to “this feels like home”

When you can learn to feel comfortable and create that kind of connection on purpose with people on dates, with family, friends and at work, then all of those relationships will shift.

It’s actually like learning a new language; if you want more Swedish speaking friends in your life, it’s probably a good idea to learn how to speak Swedish, right? The same goes for becoming fluent in emotional connection.

Because the absolute most efficient way of finding people who are open to creating an authentic connection (romantic or otherwise) with you is to become one of those people yourself.
