Do You Want To Be On A Swedish Emmy Awarded Reality Show? Here’s Your Chance!

0

Do you have Swedish ancestors?
Do you have a dream to see Sweden?
Do you have an urge to find your Swedish roots?

Then you should apply to season 8 of the Emmy awarded and Kristallen winning reality show, Allt för Sverige! (American title: Great Swedish Adventure)

In the years between 1846-1930 around 1.3 million Swedish people immigrated to America to build a better life for their families. Today, more than 4.8 million Americans have Swedish heritage. The producers of the Swedish version of “American Idol” and “Minute to win it” is coming to the U.S. to find fun, outgoing Americans with Swedish ancestry to participate in their new season of the reality television series “Allt för Sverige”.

What’s the show about and what does it mean to be a contestant on it?

The chosen Americans will travel to Sweden and take part of the Swedish everyday life as they journey throughout Sweden to discover their land, roots and cultural heritage.

Meter Television is conducting a nationwide search for fun, outgoing and adventurous Americans with Swedish ancestry (even a little bit counts), with a burning desire to find their roots and see their motherland. Chosen participants will compete in extreme cultural challenges to discover their rich and fascinating roots while trying to win the grand prize; MEETING THEIR SWEDISH RELATIVES.

“Allt för Sverige” will be shot and broadcast in Sweden and potentially other countries as well. This is an incredible “once in a lifetime” opportunity for someone to discover their ancestry and experience their Swedish cultural heritage.

When are they filming?
The show will be filmed during the summer (May to June) of 2018. To be on the show you have to commit to a maximum of 6 weeks shooting even though only the 4 finalists stay for the whole period. If you get selected to the next round then you will receive more information about the shooting process.

Meter Television is paying for travel expenses and boarding during the filming period.

SWEA Arranges 39th Christmas Fair in L.A.

1

Christmas is a time that most people want to spend time with their families.

This was something Swedish entrepreneur Agneta Nilsson was reflecting a lot about when she decided to host a Swedish Christmas fair in Los Angeles 1979. She wanted to throw an event for all the Swedish people who could not go home for Christmas so that they could at least have some pre-Christmas fun and a feeling of familiarity. Today SWEA Los Angeles Annual Christmas Fair has become a tradition for not only Swedes but for everyone in the Los Angeles area. And of course, Swedes in the States were invited.

Agneta Nilsson (in the middle), founder of SWEA, with friends.

This year the event was held at the Ken Miller Recreation Center in Torrance and a variety of young and old people, families, Americans, Swedish and other nationalities were there to celebrate the 1st Advent, which falls under the first Sunday of the December month and is widely celebrated in Sweden.

As always there was the popular Lucia celebration, and this year’s Lucia was Viktoria Strand from Borås.

“Earlier years there have been celebrities who have come to crown the Lucia. One year Alexander Skargsgård crowned the Lucia, but no one knew who he was. We had to put up signs everywhere that said ”Alexander Skarsgård, son of Stellan Skarsgård. And another year Anthony Kiedis, Singer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers crowned the Lucia, and he even wrote a special poem for the event,” said Anna Jönsson Conell, who’s been in charge for the Glögg (hot and spiced wine) at the event for the past 20 years.

Anna also said that the SWEA-organisation means a lot to her.

”For me, the Christmas Fair means that the Christmas season has begun. It’s fun to see so many people coming here, that new people are finding their way here and that so many people are coming back to the Christmas fair year after year. I have made a lot of good friends thanks to SWEA.”

The vendors at the fair were selling handcrafted items, art, jewelry, toys, Swedish books and more. One of the most popular things sold was semlor, the Swedish pastry. Berolina Bakery in Glendale was baking for two days and sold over 700 semlor at the fair.

Money made by SWEA Los Angeles at the fair (entrance fee, food and raffle tickets) goes to lowering the membership fee, having more and bigger events and to SWEA Los Angeles film scholarship. The scholarship goes to filmmakers at the beginning of their careers and consists of $7,500 and a round ticket from Sweden to Los Angeles. The recipient will spend three months in Los Angeles, the movie capital of the world, focusing on work, education, and networking.

What is SWEA?

SWEA Los Angeles is a chapter of SWEA Inc., Swedish Women’s Educational Association International, Inc. SWEA Inc. is a global non-profit organization for Swedish speaking women who live or have lived abroad.

Janice

Janice is the latest in a line of performers – including Lykke Li and Mapei – to emerge from Sweden’s famed Tensta Gospel Choir. With four big soul-inspired pop singles, Janice has quickly solidified her position as one of Sweden’s most promising new talents. Her music is atmospheric and dark yet hopeful.

Pale Honey

Gothenburg-based duo Pale Honey make minimalist rock that lunges from saccharine to deadly in an instant, meshing dirty synths and distorted guitars. For their earlier work, they’ve been compared to superstars such as PJ Harvey and Sleater-Kinney.  In October of this year, they released their latest album Devotion.

Sarah Klang

Sarah Klang’s sound is unlike any other. With a completely unique voice, she encapsulates listeners in her own universe. Her inspiration comes from old wedding dresses, Barbara Streisand, ambient electronica, dads in the 80s and plastic flowers.

sweeep

sweeep explores the borderlines between witch house and atmospheric space noise, creating a unique sound best described as sweepstep.

Butchers Daugther

One of my favorite brunch restaurants in New York would definitely be Butchers Daughter. I don’t practice veganism religiously, but if I do have the option I’ll usually prefer it.

So if you’re craving an actual filling meal but with a good conscious, Butchers Daughter is the place for you. This time, I visited the location in West Village. The restaurant is a plant-based restaurant, 100% vegetarian, and they even call themselves a “vegetable slaughterhouse” which ironically explains their name.

Butchers Daughter is modern and trendy but still really down to earth. The juices here are amazing but if you’re there for Sunday brunch, I recommend their great selection of mimosas.

Other favorites on the menu are the spicy kale salad, the coconut parfait, and the deli-style Reuben sandwich (yes, it’s also vegetarian).

As for prices, New York prices are normally higher than the rest of the country but in my opinion, Butchers Daughter is definitely worth a stop. Juices are around $10, salads and sandwiches around $15.

We sell designer kale

Stop by Butchers Daughter in West Village after strolling down Bleecker Street with all the cute shops, including Sockerbit, then head over to Magnolia Bakery for a cupcake or banana pudding to top it off.
