Hope you all had a beautiful weekend! Our weekends are always so busy and I usually have a few personal training clients on the weekends so when Monday comes it feels just like it the weekend went by in a blink. However, we did have time for some “fika”, and as you probably know by now, Swedes LOVE their fika time! Fika, is more then just a cup of coffee! It’s a time to chill with friends and family, to actually sit down and catch up and talk with each other! Of course, it usually comes with a yummy treat, like a cinnamon bun or cookies! This is one thing I really miss, to have fika with my friends! Here, we usually just grab a cup of coffee and continue on with our life!
I ordered some awesome coffee mugs last week from http://www.lovesthlm.com
You should check it out! They have some amazing things! I love my new cups! I take my fika time pretty serious and like my coffee strong and in a beautiful cup! 🙂
The coffee tasted amazing! 🙂 We sat on the patio on Sunday morning and just enjoyed some relaxing time! Isn’t the cup cute? You can even see how you pronouns “fika”. Anyway, Love, STHLM has some really fun Scandinavian designs, prints, pillows, posters and cards!
I got this cool poster of Sweden with a golden dalahorse for Stockholm a while back ago and I think it’s super cool! Fits perfectly in our living room!
Happy Monday everyone and make sure you make this week a great one!
Sorry, have to go, my coffee is ready!
Swedish Midsummer weekend!
What a fabulous weekend! As you might know, Swedish Midsummer is a BIG deal in Sweden. This might be one of my favorite celebration and I always try to have at least a small celebration with my family and carry on the traditions. Sometimes I try to plan my yearly trip to Sweden during June so we can celebrate with our family and friends in Sweden. There were a few different celebrations around the Bay Area but we decided to have our own little celebration at home. We had a yummy smorgasbord with pickled herring, smoked salmon, boiled potatoes, shrimp salad and cheese. Can you believe that even my daughters loves pickled herring! That’ mommy’s girls! We didn’t do the traditional may pole and the dance around it or the schnapps! However, we sang songs and enjoyed the evening! Of course we had strawberries, ice cream and whip cream for dessert.
“The celebration of solstice and welcoming of the summer time is always a special to a swede”
Another tradition is that, on the way home from the celebration, women would pick seven different spices flowers and lay them under the pillow. During the night, their future husband will show up in their dreams. But since I already married the love of my life I didn’t have to pick any flowers! 🙂
This weekend we also took the girls to their first Giants game in San Francisco! I’m not a huge baseball fan, but I love any sport event and we really enjoyed it! Even tho, it was probably the hottest day of the year, the girls had a blast!
Happy Mother’s Day!
Happy Mother’s Day to you all STRONGMoms out there! I hope you all had a fabulous day and that you all got spoiled rotten, showered with love and enjoyed every minute! So here is a question, since Sweden celebrates Mother’s Day next weekend, do I get to celebrate next weekend as well? Hm.. well at least I told me husband and kids that! 🙂
We had a very good day! The girls slept in their own bed and didn’t wake up until 7.30 am! That might have been the best present of all! Man, I miss too sleep in!
“To sleep in! The best present ever”
Anna made me a “Kladdkaka”, chocolate mud cake! I was her number one assistant but she did pretty good on her own! A pretty quick and simple cake that everyone loves!
1 stick butter
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1 cup flour
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp Vanilla extract
Melt the butter then mix the other ingrediens and bake in 350F for about 20-25 min. Voila!
The top should be firm but the center gooey! We served with ice cream, whip cream and strawberries!
The last couple of weeks have been kind of crazy work wise. We are working on a awesome update on our app STRONGMom and we can finally see the light in the tunnel! I’m so excited to have it all updated and the new version is great! I’ll promise that I’ll keep you updated and let you know when we release it!
Ok, off to bed! A new exciting week ahead!!
Crush your goals!
Yesterday I found my journal that I wrote in a couple of year ago! Last time I wrote in that book was September of 2013, 5 years ago! And you know what?! I REACHED all my goals that I had on my “5 year goal list!” How cool is that!? So 2013 I wrote down 5 main goals that I wanted to accomplish by 2018 and even tho I didn’t look at it very much I always had it in the back of my mind and I worked towards them pretty much every day! I also had 5 minor goals that I wanted to reach and they lead to the 5 main goals! It’s a great feeling to look back and see what actually have happened the last couple of years especially when some days feel like I’m just standing still..
Goal setting is something that I talk to my clients a lot about! If you have goal you would like to reach – write them down! Research shows that you are more likely to reach them if you have them on paper and have a clear vision on what you want to accomplish! I help my clients guide them through this process a lot. Goals should be specific, measurable, action oriented, realistic and time bound. No matter if you want to lose pounds, run a marathon or climb the career ladder you need a clear vision on what you would like to accomplish. Of course life happens and unexpected things come up but that’s when you have to have an alternative route that still will lead to your goals. Before I start working with any client I have them write down their goals then we go through them and from that we decide an action plan, a solid plan that will lead them to their goals!
” Make the goals specific, measurable, action oriented, realistic and time bound”
So now I have to sit down, get my book out and start thinking about the next 5 years! In 5 years I’m 43 (!!), both my girls are in school and hopefully we are all happy and healthy. I have BIG plans for the future and I’m very excited and I hope I get to share all these fun things with you all!
What’s your goals? What would you like to accomplish the next couple of years? I hope you all have a clear vision and you all crush your goals!
We had an amazing time in Hawaii! This was a well needed vacation just with husband! The girls were home with “mormor” aka grandma and I’m pretty sure they were spoiled rotten! As they should! Sometimes is nice to get some time alone and just connect again! Our life is so busy and some days it feels like we don’t even see each other! It’s nice to have a meal together and not being interrupted every other second!
We stayed in Honolulu and everything was just perfect! Great hotel, beaches, food and weather! We did some day exertions and just relaxed on the beach! So a good mixture of activities! We are very active on our vacations, mostly because we have a hard time to be still 🙂 but it’s also a great way to explore the place! We hiked Diamond Head, walk around Waikiki, did stand up paddle boarding, swam in the ocean! We also went to the Pear Harbor, which was very interesting and I definitely recommend to visit Oahu!
I think I’m maxed out on Mai Tais, onion chips and fried food for a while and actually looking forward to my regular plain boring food! That’s what my body craves! By the way, the Maui onion chips taste pretty much like Estrellas Grill chips!
Maui style onion chips taste pretty much like the Swedish Grill Chips! YES!
We missed the girls like crazy and next time we’ll bring them! I know they will love it! Anna also thinks we hanged out with Moana, Maui and Heihei pretty much all the time in Hawaii!
Good news for this week: Zlatan, the Lion is taking over LA! Zlatan is an amazing soccer player with a non Swedish attitude!
Extremely sad news of the week: Avicii, the Swedish musician, DJ and producer passed away on Friday! The world is grieving! Rest in peace young soul!
“One day you’ll leave this world behind, so live a life you will remember.”- Avicii
Back to reality! Spring break is over and we are back in school! We had a nice relaxing week with only a few day trips! We went to Charles M. Schulz’s museum in Santa Rosa! Charles M. Schulz was the creator of the Peanuts gang! We love Snoopy!
The museum is really cute and shows lots of comic strips, old toys, Mr Shulz’s workstation and the history behind Snoopy and his friends. The museum aslo has different fun activities for the kids, which they loved! They play movies, have an activity room for the kids where they could color and do art projects!
Of course we had to find “Snobben” in Swedish!
The museum also have an ice rink! I don’t think I have been on skates in about 15 years… and I just love to skate! It was Anna’s first time so we had a little Bambi experience but once she got the hang of it she loved it! I can definitely see us going back! The kids loved it and I really liked that they had fun activities for the kids!
Ok, back to packing! Hubby and I are heading to Honolulu for a few days! Mormor from Sweden is here to look after the girls! I know! I’m spoiled! I feel very fortunate to have an amazing mom so we can take a few off and just relax! Unfortunately it looks like the weather is not going to be great… but I’m pretty sure the bar is still open 🙂 Aloha!
