New York’s Scandinavia House is turning its Nordic Book Club spotlight on one of Sweden’s most acclaimed literary voices this November.
On Tuesday, November 3, 2026, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM ET, the online book club will discuss Queen by Swedish writer Birgitta Trotzig, in an English translation by Saskia Vogel.
A Swedish classic in translation
First published in 1964, Queen centers on Judit and her family in the southern Swedish village of Bäck. Scandinavia House describes the novella as a mythic, modernist classic and notes that the new English edition marks a long-awaited rediscovery of Trotzig’s work for English-language readers.
The discussion is part of the American-Scandinavian Foundation’s recurring Nordic Book Club, which brings readers together to explore Nordic literature in translation.
